In this era, as many Americans experience daily doses of neighborhood drama and political division, mentalist Dr. Steve Taubman invites you to a magical, connective performance; to a place where unity, humor and a bit of “How did he do that?” open your eyes and your heart. “I like to open people’s minds in a way that feels unexpected,” the performer shared.
Dr. Steve Taubman is a chiropractor, sports medicine healer, author, hypnotist, dog dad, magician and mentalist. Imagine, juggling all the bolts of this existence with so much flair, that you end up creating an interactive auditorium magic show that blows minds and connects hearts. Taubman has created just that kind of show; he calls the show Mind Magic.
Taubman brings his interactive immersion between magic and psychology to Naples, 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 26 at The Norris Community Center. Tickets are available at eventbrite.com.
Taubman grew up with Taubman, but from a bit of a distance. The two went to high school together in Long Island, but never really talked or hung out socially. After graduation, the lost track of Taubman.
“I had no idea Steve had this gift,” she shared. “He has this ability to read people, and to really want to understand them. I think it’s sort of his superpower.”
Several weeks ago, Richman and a friend went to one of Taubman’s performances.
“I have to say it, I am a pretty harsh critic,” Richman told me. “But I left his show with my mind blown! Somehow, he found a complete stranger in the audience, and by the end of the show he was telling that stranger the name of her seventh grade boyfriend. It was crazy.”
“His talent blew my mind I still wonder how he did some of his tricks,” said Richman.
“As a hypnotist, I put people to sleep. But what I really do is wake people up,” Taubman said.
This man of many titles invites members of his audiences to “get on the ride.” The intention of the shows is to change how people think and to change how people feel, he said.
“As folks watch me, rather than trying to figure out my technique, I hope they come to a place of full joy.”
Each day, human beings send out signals. The cues we share with others are important for successful communication. Many of the signals we send are intentional. Smiles, a thumbs-up sign and even a nod are understood almost universally. But what it Taubman told you – proved to you, even – that human beings also send out plenty of communicative signals they don’t even know they’re sending?
“People who come to my shows have a very good chance of being an audience pose. For instance, he may say, ‘Pretend we are going on vacation. Where are we going?’ An audience member will yell something like, ‘We’re going to Las Vegas!'”
At the end of the show, Taubman presents a piece of paper where Las Vegas is an answer he wrote down long before the show started.
“It is just crazy that he predicts these things,” Richman.
When Taubman is not performing Mind Magic – or walking his dog Woody – he is leading corporate seminars and helping people over-come stress to manifest their peak potential. He achieves these goals through an unconventional mix of magic and hypnosis.
“Manifestation is a form of self-hypnosis,” he revealed. “As a life coach, I show people how to give themselves clear suggestions for positive outcomes.”
Taubman is aware that people sometimes equate with hypnotism with darkness.
“Let’s be clear. My show is completely playful. I won’t put anybody in a dark place. I want people to leave my show having experienced some joy,” he said.
Joy is what drives him from Vermont to audiences large and small, whether 3,000-seat auditoriums or the intimate setting of the 200 seats of the Norris Center. III
“He is all about harnessing the power of positive thinking,” Richman stated. “When he is on stage, he is not just a performer. He is a connector,” Rachman said.
